Miami Comes In Last In Electricity Efficiency Survey

We all know that Miami can be a sweaty place, so maybe this new study from Arcadia Power isn’t entirely surprising.

The clean energy company ranked 15 major U.S cities based on data from 7,400 of its customers, the Miami Herald reports, and Miami led all the cities when it came to electricity inefficiency.

“Air conditioning is a big factor here,” Arcadia’s director of Energy Services Joel Gamoran told the Herald. “But that’s not all there is to it.”

The study reads:

But Miami residents used over 60 percent more electricity a month than the nationwide average in 2017. When normalized for average home sizes and weather conditions, they still ranked as the least efficient city among 15 other major U.S. cities.

Arcadia hopes the study will encourage consumers to think about their own personal energy use, and how it contributes to the threat of climate change.
